How to get here

If you have a GPS navigator, you’ll find our coordinates on the Google Map in the sidebar beneath our contact information.

If you’re coming from Tallinn by car, follow signs for highway 2 to Tartu. The road is in good condition. When you approach Tartu (186 km), do not enter the city itself but continue along highway 2 in direction Võru and Luhamaa. Some 15 km past Tartu, you will see a sign to Otepää (road no 46), distance 26 km. The distance from Tallinn is 225 km and takes about 3½ hours.

If you travel by motorbike, there are more interesting routes than highway 2, albeit a bit longer. One goes via Viljandi, another via Mustvee and along the shores of Lake Peipus. Just let us know and we’ll give you more detailed directions.

You could also take the bus. The buses come through Tartu where you have to change. Bus tickets are very inexpensive, and there are several departures from Tallinn to Tartu every hour. The trip as far as Tartu takes 2½ hours, and the connection to Otepää from 40 minutes to 1 hour. You can plan your trip yourself, find bus schedules here. Enter Tallinn as the departure point and Otepää as the destination.

There’s a train service from Tallinn to Tartu. From there, you need to take the bus. Train schedules in English are here (select Tallinn as the point of departure and Tartu as the destination from the drop-down menus). For the bus service from Tartu to Otepää, see the link in the above paragraph.

If you have a larger group and don’t feel particularly adventurous, let us know in advance. We can arrange a minibus service through a local bus company at a very reasonable price.

HINT: Otepää and South Estonia are generally very safe. In Tallinn, however, we recommend using guarded car parks, and when shopping, leaving someone by the car if possible. Your foreign licence plates may attract unwanted attention, especially near the harbour.

If you’re coming from the south through Latvia, cross the border at Valka/Valga. First follow signs for highway 3 towards Tartu, and after some 11 km you’ll already see the first road sign for Otepää. From there on, just follow the Otepää signs, it’s signposted all the way.
